Everyday holds wonderful manifestations of God's love. He teaches me lessons through my children and the journey of life. I found out that one just has to open their eyes and start looking at the mundane in a creative way.

Happy February! How's it going so far? Today I spent most of my day posting audition notices for the upcoming play I am directing called a Song for Peace. I thought it would present more of a challenge since the girls are banned from tv, computers and basically lost all of their toys due to some very serious trouble they got into yesterday and I had no way to keep them entertained! I'm going to laugh about it later...I swear. No-really if you talk to my future self, she's guffawing about the ribbons that she saved for 23 years that her family from India sent her that the girls thought they would cut in quarters. She thinks that it's hilarious that the kids drew on each other with permanent markers on their eczema covered skin. My future self is tickled pink that the girls decided they would make their brother's bath more relaxing by tearing apart her silk wedding flowers and dumping the petals into the water along with the essential oils from the air freshener to make it more luxurious. Sure-hilarious! HA....HA! When it rains it pours, eh?

Well it's a day later and I've calmed down considerably. I know that it's all just materialistic stuff but it was stuff that meant something to me. That held emotional memories. But I could hear this quiet voice in my heart reminding me to let it go. You can't take it with you when you die. So with all that in mind-I'm trying to let it go. We (me and the kids) had a long talk about what it feels like to have your things disrespected as well as what it means to respect our home and the things God has blessed us with. They will have to earn their toys and gaming privileges back too. BUT something funny happened today. The kids found ways to be creative with the books, markers and paper I left in their rooms. They played with each other more and seemed more calm. It reminded me of the days when I was little and my sister and I would play cabbage patch adventures ALL DAY until dinner time! My brother, sister and I would ride bikes and play outside until it got dark. Cartoons only came on in the morning or after school for a little bit. Those were the good ole' days right? To say the least, I was surprised...pleasantly at how they kept themselves busy all day.

I think I'll keep this ban up for a good while!

Wow!!! What a day. I remember a similar incident when my boys decided to play with my thread. They wrapped thread all around their stuffed animals, nearly wasting two whole spools!!! I guess they were inspired by the artist, Christo, who wraps building with fabric! I was livid but they felt so accomplished in showing me their finished masterpieces that it was hard to stay mad. I did give them the same talk so now they use other materials for their "artwork." I too miss the days of playing double dutch and rollerskating 'til dark. www.nelesc.blogspot.com
