Today I went to work out for the first time in months. I decided to take it easy by just doing 30 minutes on the treadmill and doing some ab work. Just enough to "work hard" and not too much to wake up in so much pain that I won't be able to go back tomorrow. The kids were able to take a tumbling class while I worked out. They got some energy out and I got some fat burning in! We then went to the bookstore where I met a lovely mom who has just moved away from Iowa with her family. We came home and made chili for dinner:
- 1 lb ground turkey, seasoned.
- 2 cans of organic chili beans from our local health food store
- home made salsa (bell peppers, onions, seasoning salt, parsely, garlic herb marinade, olive oil)
- topped with mozzerella string cheese (veggie cheese for the kiddos.)
Just a regular day. But the amazing thing was I really focused on being in the moment rather than going off to my cow path of dreaming about the future or trying to flesh out ideas in my head while the kids played with the enormous train set at the bookstore. I only made this effort because of a talk I had with a lady at my church. I realized that I was spending so much time thinking about big dreams and future things that I didn't see what was under my nose-the chance to use my gifts and talents right here right now with my kids. And to view that as IMPORTANT and what God wants me to do in this stage of life. Many of you may be saying "duh!" but forgive me. It was right under my nose and I missed it. I feel embarrassed and a bit angry with myself. It's not easy to say I've been self-centered. It's really not easy to sacrifice yourself to be a better parent but I will becuase I love my children.
Jesus did the same thing for us. Our Father in heaven sacrificed for us because He loves us. He stopped and gave us His son as a ransom for our sins. He reached down to us when we needed Him. I am so grateful for what He had done for me. Children are a blessing-they help us have insight into God's heart.
