The crisp autumn air and sunny day created a beautiful backdrop to a lovely gathering of friends to celebrate what can happen when we work together and share our talents. Individuals from Felege Hiywot Center, the Mayor's office, the Martindale Brightwood community leaders, the Imagine Grant people, as well as community volunteers came together to show their appreciation for the generosity of Major Tool and Machine for giving of their talent, their resources, and their love to change what many would have considered a forgettable house into a place where many of children and neighbors would call home. Due to the efforts of Major Tool and Machine, 1648 Sheldon Street has transformed into a place where children can learn about organic gardening, health and wellness, science as well as leadership skills and social skills.

Some of the highlights from the event included a visit from Charles Ingram the Northeast Center Region Mayor's Neighborhood Liaison and Karen Haley the Director of Sustainability who presented a Proclamation from the Mayor deeming October 5th as Major Tool and Machine Day for their efforts with renovating the Felege Hiywot Center as well as building the stage set for A Song for Peace.

The Felege Hiywot Center will now call the main building the MTM Building in honor of Major Tool and Machine. Also in the side yard of the center, a bush has been planted with a plaque, in memory of Bob Patterson, who was a significant contributor to the renovation of the Center. The day ended wonderfully with a delicious meal with dishes from Ethiopia and America combined with wonderful fellowship! If you have a moment come by and visit and see for yourself why the community has embraced the Felege Hiywot Center.

The play A Song for Peace that the FH Center helped to produce will be performed again this Saturday at 3162 North Baltimore at 7pm. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $10.
