I haven't posted for awhile concerning my bible study. I'm still slowly working through "Lord I Want to know you." I have been really challenged with analyzing the scripture with key words, key verses, etc. Kay Arthur really made me work these past few weeks!
We looked at Exodus 17 where the children of Israel were being led by Moses into the desert away from slavery in Egypt. The people were thirsty and began to grumble and complain to Moses. Moses prayed and God told him to go to the rock at Horeb and strike the rock there. So Moses obeyed and struck the rock and water came out of it for the people to drink.
So what does this mean for us? Let me start with two verses from Scripture:
1 Corinthians 10:3-4 (New International Version)
They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
John 7:37-39 (New American Standard Bible)
Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink."He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'"
But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
So the Rock was Christ (1 Corinthians 10:4)
The living water is the Holy Spirit (John 7:39)
Jesus offers the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and eternal life to "He who believes in Me (Jesus)". This is HUGE because the One the people had been waiting thousands of years to redeem them from sin has come! He is crying out to us to receive the living water and eternal life with God. This is the water that will cause us to never thirst again.
Are you thirsty today for something? For love, for purpose, for comfort? Jesus is able to quench that thirst. Even as a Christian it is good to be reminded of that through my own "thirsty" days.
