Everyday holds wonderful manifestations of God's love. He teaches me lessons through my children and the journey of life. I found out that one just has to open their eyes and start looking at the mundane in a creative way.

The Weapons of the Sky Dancer
Dija Henry

My children have somehow taken an affinity to the old cartoons of my childhood: Tom and Jerry, Yogi Bear, and now they have discovered the Sky Dancers.

sky dancersThe sky dancers are a group of teens who are dancers in our world but SKY DANCERS in another world. They are a kind of small army that protects the Queen and her Wingdom. Very enchanting for little princesses. One episode in particular made me kind of shiver in it's realness to the Christian walk. One of the young sky dancers broke her arm during a ski trip in which she was behaving kind of like a daredevil on her snowboard. Another skier came by and knocked her off of her board and she broke her arm. It took her 6 weeks to heal and try to fly again. But she had so much self doubt even though her friends were taking the time to help her get back into flying shape. Enter the evil enemy and his little minions. These little minions found out about the sky dancer's broken arm and her self-doubt and used it against her by sabotaging all of her flights. The sky dancer started to believe that it was her fault, that she was failing on her own and was no longer worthy of her call as a sky dancer. She decided that she had to tell the Queen that she could no longer be a sky dancer.

broken spiritDoes that sound familiar? That we may have been injured physically, emotionally or mentally and that causes so much self-doubt. We start to fail and want to quit without realizing that the enemy is using many tactics to destroy our spirit. In fact, those are the words the evil one used: Her arm was broken, now let's break her spirit.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

For though we walk in the flesh, we don not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

Apostle Paul had many oppositions in Corinth, but he wanted to encourage the church that the war that is being fought is not of this world, and our fight isn't physical but spiritual. Every human will have similar struggles (i.e. broken arms) but as Christians we will experience warfare from satan as well to break our spirit. But our weapons are not of the flesh and these weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. Notice that he says "we are destroying" that means we are continually fighting but continually destroying every lofty thing raised up. I wish that the sky dancer knew what was really up with the minions and their mission. She could have taken every thought of self-doubt captive to the obedience of Christ.

Let me break it down for you:

One of our weapons is the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6). When the enemy comes with speculations against the knowledge of God (i.e. you can't fly-you should quit) you can fight with the TRUTH of God's Word (i.e. I have not been given a spirit of fear but of love power and a sound mind- 2Timothy 1:7). The sky dancer was born for a special purpose and had a special gift that no one could replace. Don't let the enemy cause you to think that you can't because you who have the Holy Spirit CAN do all things through Christ who strengthens YOU! God gave you wings to fly. Don't let anyone (not even yourself) tell you otherwise!

I listened in on a women's teleconference last night called Inner Mean Girl Reform School, which discussed those icky voices of self-doubt in our heads. All these amazing women had different insecurities... some felt like they couldn't do enough for their family, some felt like they didn't belong, some felt like they weren't a successful, one woman said that she felt completely worthless (now that one made me shed a tear!), etc. The instructors talked about how to confront or quiet these nasty voices in our heads by tapping into our inner wisdom. I believe that for Christians this inner wisdom is the word of God and we have to use His weapons to combat the insecurities (that we all have) in order to accomplish His mission.
